How could the Brain Simulation Section better start the new year than announcing the successful call of its last European collaborative project?
The Brain Simulation Section is proud to announce that the TEF-Health project, aiming to foster the integration of state-of-the-art artificial intelligence (AI) and robotics technologies in the healthcare domain, and coordinated by Prof. Petra Ritter, has been funded with € 60 Mill by the European Commission and national funding agencies.
The digital transformation is rapidly changing our economy and society, and touches upon many sectors, including the healthcare domain. Technologies based on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and robotics have the potential to improve the efficiency, security, and quality of the prevention, detection, diagnosis, treatment, care, rehabilitation and monitoring of European citizens’ health, as well as to promote a healthy lifestyle.
While, many potential solutions to address these current digital needs are already prototyped or tested in labs, they cannot be deployed, in particular in emergency situations like the COVID-19 crisis, due to the lack of testing in real-life environments and the lack of certification.
The TEF-Health project will pave the way for achieving this goal!
From the lab to the market
TEF-Health will develop a reference Testing and Experimentation Facility (TEF) with a focus on full integration, testing and validation of advanced AI-based technologies and robotics technologies for health and care.
It aims to accelerate the testing and certifications, to speed up the development and the market access of trustworthy AI solutions in Europe, for both private and public sector use. TEF-Health intends to increase the effectiveness, resilience and sustainability of European health and care systems, and reduce healthcare delivery inequalities in Europe, while ensuring compliance with relevant legal, ethical, quality and interoperability requirements.
This new project is supported by the European Commission (through the Digital Europe Programme) and national funding agencies for five years with a budget of EUR 60 million. It is coordinated by Prof. Petra Ritter and forms a network of 51 partners, including leading EU hospitals and Medical Universities, certification bodies, as well as innovation clusters with links to the European Health Data Space (see our Funding webpage for more info).
